Evadney Wootton founded Blackberries in 1982. Evadney, originally from Jamaica migrated to Perth in 1980. She found that there was nobody in the state qualified to attend to her hair, this sparked the realisation that there was an untapped niche in the market place. Afro and curly hair care deadlocking, extensions and braids were a cultural skill Evadney already possessed so she decided to learn all aspects of hair care and further her skill set by studding Hair dressing and in doing so Evadney was awarded “Apprentice of the year”.
Blackberries are about serving our clients with passion, enthusiasm knowledge and expertise. Our specialist skills are in the areas of hair extensions, dreadlocks, hair braiding, curly and afro hair care. These are skills that are not taught to people studding hairdressing in Australia. Evadney has passed on her 33 years of knowledge and put all her staff members through extensive in house training in her niche field, making all blackberries staff member’s specialists in theses areas.
Blackberries have an emphasis on safe hair practices. We guarantee tried and tested techniques that will not damage your hair. We DO NOT do any methods of extensions that are damaging to your hair like tape extensions, glues or waxes, after all extensions are meant to lengthen your hair not make you loose it. We have three different techniques for dreadlocks insuring something for everybody’s needs. Our relaxing and straightening skills and products are second to none, with afro hair taking so long to grow there is no way you would want it breaking from over processing by bad relaxing and straightening techniques.

We listen to your needs and respond with our honest opinion insuring that you get the best possible end result for your hair type. Our 30 years of experience is the reason why we still have Clients from our first little shop in hay street and the majority of our business comes from word of mouth.
